Painting Indian Corn

After beginning our science exploration of Indian Corn, we followed up the lesson a few days later with an art project where the class each cut out three pieces of corn, and using a Q-tip, painted their corn with appropriate colors. Here they are, hard at work!

Science Exploration

We have been working on a Science exploration project with Indian Corn. For many students, this was their first time seeing this type of corn. We began by using describing words for the corn and coloring our own picture of the corn. We ended this part of the lesson by placing the ear of corn in water to see what will happen to the corn. Come back soon to see the results! For now, here are some pictures of the class working on the exploration.

Pattern Blocks in Math

We use Saxon Math in our school district. If you have read the monthly letters that I have been sending home, then you already know that our Math program uses a variety of hands-on activities. On this particular day, we were introduced to pattern blocks. As with almost ANY hands-on activity, there needs to be a few minutes of self-exploration for the students before we can continue with any lesson. Here are some pictures of our "self-exploration time" and then a few of the students working on the actual Math lesson for that day.

Trick or Treat Class Book

Here are some of the pages from our class book that we made before Halloween! There were requests for various candies from bubble gum, candy corn, Snickers, Airheads, spicy suckers, candy canes, and more! Enjoy!

As always, thanks for visiting!I

Dress-up day with a parade

Sorry about the delayed post. Here are some pictures of our class all dressed up for the end of Red Ribbon Week. We began the day with an assembly. Following the assembly we were able to parade through the school, visiting some sibling classrooms along the way, which was very exciting for our class and the siblings as well. It was so fun to see everyone dressed up! The kids were really excited about the entire day!
And then finally, the 1st grade team of teachers in full color:

Our class book is coming up!
Thanks!
